KwaZulu-Natal Areas

Home to, amongst others, the sought after Nyala and Bushbuck as well as Common Reedbuck, the Big 4 and the smaller species like Red Duiker and Suni, our areas in the province of KwaZulu Natal (off the east coast of South Africa) are diverse and offer challenging and exciting hunting.

Umkomaas Valley

If Nyala and bushbuck (as well as other species) are your priorities then this area is where you need to be. The Umkomaas valley is well known for its incredible populations of Nyala and Bushbuck which occur here naturally! The hunting area spans just over 8000 acres and is home to a wide variety of species, which include Nyala, Bushbuck, kudu, Buffalo, Hippo, Impala, Black Wildebeest, Zebra, Blesbok, Warthog, Bushpig, Caracal, Waterbuck, Common Reedbuck and more. The rustic but comfortable camp has a stunning view across a thickly wooded valley where Nyala and other species are often spotted. It comprises 4 elevated thatched bungalows with bathrooms attached, a central thatched dining area, wooden deck overlooking the valley and a cosy campfire. The camp has grid electricity, refrigeration and all necessary amenities to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Meals are prepared by our inhouse CVS chef Ketiwe who has been spoiling our guests for many years! The topography varies from open rolling grasslands to thickly vegetated valleys and gorges. There is a small river system which runs through the area. The best way to hunt this area is to spend time “still hunting”, glassing across valleys in the hope of spotting the elusive Nyala (which means the shifty one in Zulu). The Nyala is definitely one of Africa’s most beautiful animals.

Northern Zululand

In the land of Shaka Zulu, this hunting area is situated in the heart of Zululand, just inland from the Indian Ocean on the East Coast of South Africa. This region of Zululand has many tourist attractions which makes this camp a firm favourite for family safaris because it offers a multitude of activities in the surrounding area on days when some folks don’t wish to accompany the hunters. Our concession is one of the very few destinations where the elusive forest dwelling pygmy species such as Suni and Red Duiker can be hunted, along with a variety of other species such as Nyala (this area has excellent Nyala), Buffalo, Crocodile, Hippo, Impala, Spotted Hyena, Leopard, Waterbuck, Kudu, Common Reedbuck, Warthog, Bushpig, Blue Wildebeest, Zebra and more! The topography of this 45 000-acre area varies from thickly wooded sceric sand forests to grassy open plains, wooded hills and valleys! The majority of this area is low fence hunting which is attractive to many of our guests. The lodge offers 5 Star luxury tented accommodation with a central thatched dining area, outside campfire and boma, swimming pool and a comfortable lounge. Meals and service are excellent!

Kwa Zulu Natal Midlands – CVS Base

The midlands region is just 1 hr 20 minutes drive east of Durban’s King Shaka Airport on South Africa’s east coast. We are based just a short drive from the small town of Hilton. We do hunt some fenced game reserves depending on the species being pursued, however the main focus in this region is to hunt on low fenced farms and conservancies for Common and Mountain Reedbuck, excellent Bushbuck, Vaal Rhebok, Blesbok, Bushpig, Eland, Grey duiker and from time to time Waterbuck and Oribi. We can also hunt a variety of other species a bit further away such as Red Hartebeest, Nyala, Black and Blue Wildebeest, Tsessebe, Springbok and more. The majestic Drakensberg mountain range which is often covered in snow during our winter months’ towers over the midlands and a fair amount of hunting is conducted in the beautiful foothills. Our guests are either accommodated at our base or in a country hotel nearby. There is plenty to see and do in this area and it offers some excellent trout fishing if there is time.
