Having steadily built up its buffalo herds over the years, South Africa is one of the world’s top destinations for buffalo hunting safaris.
Known as ‘Africa’s Black Death’, the Cape Buffalo is one of Africa’s most lethal big game animals. A robustly-built species, the Cape Buffalo ranges from 1-1.7 metres in height and weighs up to 1000 kg. Armed with an impressive set of horns, buffalo are estimated to gore and kill over 200 people every year, which is why many people consider the Cape Buffalo to be the most dangerous of all of the Big Five beasts.
Usually occurring in herds, the buffalo is highly aggressive and proves challenging to hunt. Although they may look docile while grazing along through the thick bushveld, the buffalo is always on high alert for any signs of danger. What makes them particularly threatening themselves is their tendency to fight vs flight. Once a Cape Buffalo is wounded, even with a well-placed shot, the animal’s flowing adrenalin can make it extremely hard to bring down. That’s why having a professional, experienced hunting team is particularly important when hunting down the Cape Buffalo.
