Zululand is the majestic Nyala antelope’s headquarters. Most of the hunting in this area is conducted in low fence cattle country. We have been hunting this picturesque destination since the 80s and the Nyala population is astounding, with excellent quality bulls. Ideal destination for families or the serious trophy hunter after specific species, this is a great area to hunt.
One of the premier spiral horned species the shy, elusive Nyala boasts incredible beauty – a shaggy coat, bushy tail and striking colors which vary from white stripes to golden legs, with white dots above its hooves and a long mane down the length of its body. The classic chevrons below its eyes are telltale markers that this animal is part of the mystical spiral horn family. Females are bright orange and closely resemble the Bongo.
This is one of the few areas in SA where Suni and Red duiker can be hunted. They require a specific forest type to flourish in, and that is exactly what we have here in abundance. The crocodiles are not very large, you can expect an 8-10-footer, maybe more.
Leopards are prolific because this area is located between two protected areas. Over and above this it is perfect leopard habitat. The leopards kill a lot of cattle each year, as do the spotted hyenas. The landowner is extremely tolerant of the leopards despite this because when a tag is drawn to hunt a leopard on his land, the amount paid to him helps to cover the cost of his losses. More importantly, he is a devoted conservationist and his family has protected the wildlife here for a very long time.
